These are things I personally use on a frequent basis.

Guss’ Pickles: best pickles ever

I found these in the cooler at my local Walmart out in the sticks. They are easily the best pickles I have ever had, better than Clausen, Vlasic, Heinz, anybody. All that stuff in the bottom is garlic and pickling spices. Guss’ pickles are nice and crisp and cucumber-colored instead of being dyed artificial yellow-green. Unfortunately …

Review: NoteMaster

NoteMaster is a note-taking app for iOS. I switched to it after trying out various note-taking apps, and not really loving any of them. I love this app. I had been using Apple’s native Notes app for years, but I was running into limitations–there was no way to do bold, indent, make bulleted lists, and …

Dropbox

I use a product that just caught my attention in the last month and has now become absolutely invaluable–Dropbox. It’s one of those products that I can’t see getting very much better–it’s almost perfect already. It’s like a folder out on the internet, accessible from all your devices (Mac, Windows, Linux, iOS, Android, Blackberry). Unlike …

Sriracha

The first time I tried Sriracha pepper sauce it was in a peepee jar. Lemme esplain. I have this friend who works in a hospital–but not in the department where they use said jars for said purpose. She and her coworkers use them for beads and other little odds and ends. Anyway, she was totally hooked on …

Drive on

Working in I.T., I hear a lot of figurative terms for USB flash memory drives: thumb drive, jump drive, zip drive*, flash stick, and memory stick**. My favorite term that I have heard, though, is ‘nerd stick.’ As I have mentioned before, my favorite nerd stick is the Victorinox USB Swiss Army Knife. Both asterisked terms …

1/3 Million Mile Mazda

My little 1991 Mazda Protégé/323 hit 1/3 of a million miles last week. I bought the car when it had 188,912 miles on it, and I’ve put the remaining miles on over the last 5 ½ years. It’s my second Mazda (my first was a 1983 GLC–also awesome). This is the most miles I have ever …

Fixed HP P4015 and Xbox 360

Last weekend I fixed my Xbox 360 and a pair of HP LaserJet P4015s; interestingly enough, they had a similar problem. The Xbox wouldn’t eject the optical drive. I thought the whole drive had failed, and disassembled the Xbox. However, the drive would eject fine once the case was off. I did some more research …

Flowers and cars

For 11 years now I have been going to the same flower shop: My Sister’s Garden in Higginsville, Missouri. I first went there simply because of the close proximity to my house and my job, but I ended up staying because the customer service on my first visit was so awesome.  I suppose the prices …

323 x 3

My Mazda Protégé 323, hit 323,000 miles today, 3/23. (the pic of the odometer is 1 mile off– it took me a little time to stop on the side of the highway)

I.T. Toolkit

Lots of places that sell computer and computer accessories also sell “computer toolkits.” I put that in quotes because they are kind of a joke, consisting of one useful tool and a bunch of useless stuff you will never use. If you work on computers or plan to, here is the list of items in …
